Acidification through supplementation of buffered organic acids in poultry feed is done to maintain the acidic pH in the gut and crop to control growth of pathogenic microbes and stimulate secretion of digestive enzymes. Acidification also helps to promote growth of beneficial gut microflora and improve nutrient absorption. Addition of organic acids in feed disfavors the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi in the stored feed and there by reduces the spoilage of feed and improves feed quality.
